types of appetite

Ordinary story: at work or school after a meal, our hand reaches for something tasty, and life without cakes or chips no longer seems to be full? Let us see how we can recognize and neutralize all kinds of appetite. People should be controlled by the brain, and not by the stomach.

As you know, appetite comes with food, yet it sometimes overtakes us between meals, as well. You, of course, you do understand that you had a hearty lunch just an hour ago, but still you can not deny yourself the temptation to eat a fresh bun or have something sweet you’re your tea.

First, let’s take a closer look at the concepts. You should not put an equal sign between hunger and appetite. Hunger is the signal that you need to eat. Hunger is the signal that you need to eat. This condition is accompanied by certain body reactions, including:

  • queer feeling in the pit of the stomach,
  • rumbling,
  • slight weakness.

*It directly depends on when you ate last time.

Appetite is the desire to enjoy food, and not any food, but a very specific one. You will want a donut, cake, shish kebab or chips… A that, a bowl with soup or a slice of brown bread will not be appetizing in your eyes at all. The desire to enjoy the food is not a crime.

However, if you regularly indulge your appetite, problems with excess weight will not be long in coming. That is why it is important to understand the reasons behind the wild appetite and to eliminate them in time.

Reflexive appetite

You can not resist the aroma of freshly baked bread, and the look of a complex cake encourages you to immediately try it? This means that your appetite arises due to the reflexes. The desire to enjoy food arises in you when you feel the aroma of cooked food or see a beautifully served dish.

Alas, the effort of will to fight this type of appetite is useless. We must find ways to overcome it.

What to do? You will have to learn breaking the templates – learn how to block any unwelcome behavior by any means. For example, you know that a pleasant aroma of food drives you crazy. Keep on hand alternative odors that will allow you to erase the memories of the previous scent. These include coffee. A small pouch with several coffee beans will not take up much space in your handbag.

Another example comes for the appetite that is stimulated by an aesthetically attractive dish. You simply have to break the appeal. Cut a small piece with your fork and start eating it. You will be surprised, but this amount will be enough for you to get pleasure and not to eat too much.

Emotional appetite

It occurs when you have emotions that you can not cope with for some reason, like:

  • boredom,
  • fear,
  • anger,
  • resentment,
  • irritation.

*When you eat, the level of emotional tension decreases simply because you chew.

Emotional appetite

All chewing and sucking reflexes automatically reduce the degree of negative feelings. In addition, food improves mood. This is one of the few ways to quickly get pleasure, which is accompanied by the release of endorphins into the blood.

What to do? Every time your hand reaches for another portion of something tasty, stop and ask yourself:

  • how do you feel physically?
  • what emotions are you experiencing?

Overcoming emotional appetite begins with the ability to recognize your true feelings. This accounts for 50% of the success in overcoming this habit.

Next, you need to learn the skill of switching emotions and learn how to choose the right ways to change the emotional state. For example, to switch attention from an emotion that is unpleasant for you, you can begin to perform some action. It should not take much time – a maximum of 15 minutes, e.g.:

read several pages of a book,

iron your clothes,

clean a part of the room,

do a few squats,

water the flowers.

To change the emotional state, expand the range of your pleasures. Think about five or seven things that you have never done before, which could give you some positive emotions. It can be something to pamper your body, any actions related to getting and discussing information that is new for you, handicrafts, cooking, exercising and stuff.

Social appetite

As a matter of fact, it is a habit to overeat in those places, where other people eat. It can be provoked by:

  • any feast on the occasion and without it,
  • picnics,
  • trips on vacation.

Social appetite

In all of the above cases

  • you can be offered an excess of food – “let me serve you with one more piece”,
  • manipulate you – “I tried so hard, cooked”,
  • scoffing at your attempts to lose weight – “aha, let’s see how long you will endure.”

The desire to be like everyone else, the inability to refuse is sometimes higher than the need to maintain your habitual diet.

What to do?Learn to say the word “no” clearly. Practice in front of the mirror, take a confident pose, rehearse the facial expression and tone of voice. In this case, it will be easier for you to refuse any food that is not useful to you in the company.

Perhaps it will be easier for you to come up with an explanation in advance why you do not eat this or that. Refer to the attending physician who recommended that you temporarily stop consuming some products to improve your complexion. If you still want to try certain dishes, choose from all the variety 2-3 dishes that you like more.
